The Sadness Of Not Booking The Trip

By Jamie Lawlor

Let’s talk freedom.

Freedom of choice that is.

To go on the trip, or not. To say yes to the group activity, or not. To try the new sport, or not.

Let’s go down a level.

To throw the left hook, or the right. To hit the backhand, or to run around it and play the forehand. To pick up the thing with an overhand grip, or underhand.

All the way down to…

To be the one who helps out, or not. To do the good deed, or not.

Getting up early for your daily workout is not always the most pleasurable experience, but the prize is freedom of choice.

When you are not booking the trip because you’re afraid of the physical demands of the travel, life starts to become very narrow.

When you start saying no to things because of some deep fear of being embarrassed, that’s the hidden cost.

Freedom of choice is one of the reasons we program with variance built in. Adapting to new movements forces us to be more adaptive, giving us more capacities, and therefore more options.

Freedom of choice is so easy to take for granted, but boy will you notice it when it’s gone.
